Thanks to the wonderful advances in technology, friends and family can see what gear we are taking and what our general plan of attack is for resupply on our route. It's really too bad that Meriwether Lewis and William Clark were unable to share the plans of their trip with so many people. Anyway.......somebody pick up the corn left behind with that joke.
Our uber-lightweight ice axes arrived today! Check out the photo listed below. Oh, another gear update, Sarah Kirkconnell of freezerbagcooking.com fame gave us a better alcohol stove to use for our trip. The stove is called a Whitebox stove. They are made by a gentleman named Bill Ballowe in Great Falls, MT. I love this little stove. With 1 fl oz of HEET, I was able to bring 2.5 cups of cold water to a rolling boil in just over 5 minutes. You can order the stoves for $20.00 from Sarah at http://www.trailcooking.com/.

Have been using Google Earth to capture images of our route through the Sierra Nevada to assist with route finding through some of the passes. We expect to encounter a bit of snow up at the higher elevations and I certainly don't want to be the yayhoo that takes the wrong pass. I'm really impressed with the versatility of this program. Check out some of the images below that I captured to assist with navigation.
