June 1st - Highway 174 to Cajon Pass

Up early as usual. Made it around Silverwood Lake to a picnic area with bathrooms and water for breakfast.

We ran into crazy swarms of mutant gnats around the lake - they were so bad you could hear the swarm befor walking through them.

After breakfast we had a relatively easy 15 miles to Cajon Pass. We walked quickly - motivated by the knowlege that McDonaldss was just around the corner. We had our orders figured out the day before.

Met up with Trail Angel/Support Guy Shorty as we came off the trail. Shorty was running support for Lime Green Jellybean who was slackpacking right behind us. Shroty scared us by saying that there was a sign on McDonalds saying only the drive thru was open. Being about 12:30pm - we were bound and determined to get our McDonald's - even if it meant walking through the drive through.

Luckily the restaurant was open and we got to eat. Eventually Jellybean rolled in and we were able to (???) briefly. They offered us a ride over to the Best Western where we decided to crash for the night. We couldn't wait to shower and do laundry.

And wouldn't you know it - the water was shut off. Grrr! So we sat around for 3 hours in our stench, waiting to take a shower. Once the water was back on, then our hot water in our room didn't work. After a room switch, we finally got our showers. Ahhh... to be clean again!
