May 24th - Idyllwild to Fuller Ridge

Woke us up after a fitfull sleep at the Idyllwild Campground which had been overcome with Memorial Day campers - circus tents, tv's, and just about every other insane piece of carcamping gear. Headed over to the Memorial Day Pancake breakfast in town. Good thing we got there just as it opened - there was already a line. And we were blessed with some off-trail magic - a nice woman gave us 2 free tickets to the breakfast just as we were walking up. Score! Idyllwild sure knows how to throw a pancake breakfast - there is a building specifically for pancake breakfasts similar to a cafeteria where the griddles are right in front of you and you move down the line collecting pancakes, ham, and eggs to order. It was quite the sight. The food was delicious - the pancakes were a apple/cinnamon variety - so tasty I went up 3 different times!

After filling up on breakfast, we resupplied at the grocery store and headed back up the mountain. We got a ride to the trailhead within 5 minutes from some dayhikers on their way up as well. The Devils Slide trail back up to the PCT was busy with Memorial Day traffic - everyone and their mom seemed to be heading up or down the trail. We cruised on up - only huffing and puffing at the top - I attributed that to the altitude (who knows if that was the truth). Found the perfect campsite about 7 miles up - right near the beginning of Fuller Ridge. We were on a rocky outcropping about 8000 feet up - we could see a town way down below and watched a lovely sunset from our sleeping bags
