May 30th 2009 - Big Bear City to Bench Camp

Slept in a bit at the Motel 6. Left the motel about 7am and started walking toward hwy 18. Took about 15 minutes to get a hitch. For the second time in a row, someone made a u-turn from the opposite direction to pick us up. Amazing how people go out of their way to help others.

We were on the trail by 8am- an unusual late start for us. Luckily the trail was very gentle - mostly rolling hills and smooth tread with a few rocky places thrown in.

We cauthg up with Colby, Tom and Spencer by a water cache at Van Dusen Rd. The rest of the day we leap-frogged - all of us making good time due to the relatively easy trail. Had an early dinner at Little Bear Camp. Oh, there was the coolest outdoor privy at the camp. Sarah, we thought of you! It had it's own wooden fence and even a hallway. Pics to be posted at a later time. :)

Kept going after dinner to make it 1 mile past Bench Camp - total 30 miles for the day. Our first 30 miler day - woo hoo! Congratulated ourselves for a job well done and then promptly crashed.
