August 10th - Bear Dog Spring Saddle to Grouse Camp Shelter

Relatively easy hiking today with some scenery. But the big news - we crossed over the Oregon border. Woo Hoo! It has been a long hard journey through California - the state that never seemed to end. We are so excited to be one step closer to home!

Toward the end of the day, the trail became ridiculous - going out of the way with lots of ups and downs, due to private land boundries. However, there was a Forest Service road (the original route of the PCT) that went directly where we wanted to go. The road had soft dirt and good views. So once again we hit the road. Helped shave a mile or 2 off. Ended up at Grouse Gap Shelter just as the sun was setting. Cool(???? Transcriber can't read this) 3-sided shelter with a picnic table and fire place. We opted for a tent just outside of the shlter but did use the well-maintained toilet. Ahhh... the little luxuries in life.
