Transcriber's note: Tom writing
Several people have told us that we're very fortunate to be on the PCT. Few people will ever spend as much time outdoors as we have. The connection to nature is a once in a lifetime opportunity.
All the hoopla sounds great until you wake up in the morning with blisters all over your feet and realize you need to walk 30 miles today so that tomorrow doesn't turn into a day with added miles.
You know what? We are fortunate. Few people will every have the opportunity to walk 25 miles with a 40 pound pack in 100 degree heat. Fewer still will ever get to walk 29 miles with shin splints that send stabbing pain through their legs with every step. Most of all, ever few people will ever have to eat their meals with a tent stake for a week because the over-priced one thy got at REI borke while stirring instant mashed potatoes.
Okay, I know... I'm complaining too much. Well, you walk 1500 miles and then pass judgement. I'm going to gripe and I don't care what anyone thinks. The PCT is a butt kicker. I don't care who you talk to... you'll hear one thing - it's more difficult than one can imagine.
Good hike today, 30 miles. We're blessed. Etna tomorrow. Woo hoo.
