August 3rd - Trinity Divide Saddle to Masterson Meadow

Transcriber's note: Tom writing

Had a bit of a late start today but we were making tracks once we got moving.

Covered 11 miles in 4 hours by doing a bit of off trail travel. Was a great chance to practice my route finding skills.

Had a lunch break at a trail head. Big shade tree provided us with relief from the heat of the sun.

Just as we were packing up to hit the trail again, a VW bus with uber-hippy murals on the side drives up. Tori and I introduced ourselves to the couple in the van. Oswa and Lisa were their names. They were at the trail to perform a little trail magic! Our lucky day. They shared pizza, beer and pastries with us. A great time was had by all. Unfortunately we had to leave if we wanted to make it to our goal of 30 miles for the day.

Didn't quite get 30. Our time with Oswa and Lisa cost us 3 miles so we ended the day with 27. Not bad. It was well worth it. We really enjoyed their company.

Tent set up in a clear cut full of wild rasberry bushes. Hope the bears aren't hungry.
