August 17th - Thielson Creek to White Fish Horse Camp

Woke up at the first daylight and hit the trail once again. The trail was great - smooth with very gentle inclines/declines. Made it to the WA/OR hight point which is ironically only half as high as the CA PCT high point.

Came upon Sugar Momma on the trail for the first time. she had been off the trail for a month due to a knee injury - was just trying to get back into the swing of things. She was doing great. All day we flip-flopped with both Munchy and Sugar Momma.

Decided to take an alternate route on the Oregon Skyline trail (which was once the old PCT). Water continues to be a major problem and the Oregon Skyline trail stays lower and goes by several good lakes. It also helps that it has less elevation gain/loss than the new PCT and is 7 1/2 miles shorter. The only drawback was we were on sandy rutted horse trails that kicked up a lot of dust.

Arrived at the horse campground and Munchy was talking to some of the campers. They offered us ice cold cans of Diet Pepsi! You should have seen our eyes light up! That soda pop was the best thing ever.

Although the horse campground is supposed to be just for people with horses, they allowed us to camp near the trailhead at the end of the campground. There was delicious piped water and toilets. We felt like we were living in luxury with all the water we could drink/use.

Since we were absolutely filthy with dust, dirt and grime, we helped each other shower down using water from our platypus and soap. It wasn't glamorous, but it did the job.
