June 7th - Agua Dulce

Zeroed at Hiker Heaven today. Quite a few thru hikers are hanging out here now. Luckily, the major herd has already been through a couple of weeks ago (at peak, Hiker Heaven hosts 50 hikers per night). There is probably about 10 hikers here now.

We spent the day being driven around by a wonderful trail angel - Helen - who volunteered to take us wherever we needed to go in the LA area for resupply. Made it to REI, a specialty running shoe store for Tom to pick up some Brooks Cascadia shoes, Super Walmart, Walgreens, Vons, In and Out Burger, and a restaurant called Chi-Chi's. Crazy thing was - Chi-Chi's was an all-you-can-eat home made pasta restaurant. What better for a thru-hiker??? Great food...and filled us up fast!

Helen was the greatest chauffeur/guide. We couldn't believe she was willing to drive us wherever we wanted. She had so much patience. Trail angels are amazing people. I have been nearly brought to tears (happy, grateful ones) by the kindness of random strangers. We hope to eventually be able to return the favor...in some way.

Had some major culture-shock walking into Super Wal-Mart on a Sunday. A bit much for 2 people just fresh off the trail - the people, the loudness, the bright lights, etc. We definitely walked around with a little dumb-foundedness. We tried to get out of their as soon as possible.

Came back to freshly laundered sleeping bags (thanks to Donna Saufley). Ahhhh...this PCT thing is definitely addicting.
