Woke up early - we hoped to make it at least 27 miles in order to be close to Tuolomne for the next day. However, we were both lacking motivation. We ran into several JMT (Transcriber's note: John Muir Trail)hikers who told us the restaurant close by at Red's Meadow had good milkshakes.
Burgers and milkshakes sounded really good and made us quicken our pace. About 2 miles before reaching Red's Meadow we decided to cancel our plan to go to Tulomne and take the shuttle bus from Red's Meadow to Mammoth Lakes.
A real shower and bed was sounding really nice. Within 2 hours we found ourselves at the Mammoth Mountain Ski Resort. Between shuttle buses (it took a total of 3 to get to Mammoth Lakes) we ran into Peter Shaw (a thru hiker we met way back in Julian and Idyllwild several weeks ago). It was good to catch up with him again.
He was heading back to the trail, but gave us several recommendations on good restaurants and also alerted us to an error on Yogi's map of Mammoth on where the library was located - ended up being on the completely opposite side of town.
Finally made it to the Motel 6 in Mammoth Lakes. It ended up being a great location - smack dab in the middle of town and right next to the post office. We stuffed our faces with pizza. How we are lovin lying in a real bed, freshly showered with clean clothes.
