We're zero'ing in Mammoth today. After 12 straight days on the trail, we need a break! Spent the day exploring the town. We really love it here. Mammoth is a great mountain town - tons of outdoor recreational opportunities but also has good restaurants, large grocery store, etc.
The town obviously runs on tourism, but does a good job of not appearing "touristy". We enjoyed riding the free shuttle bus around tow and hanging out at the library. Ended up running into Rachel again. Funny how we keep running into the same people - whether on trail or in town. Also ran into Bamboo Bob and Poppa Smurf and had dinner with them.

ReplyDeleteAh, Mammoth Lakes! That's where I had my first XC ski experience. We stayed in an old cabin that was only fit for summer use. Snow blowing under the door; no insulation; frozen drains; etc. But the frozen lakes covered with a foot of snow was great for skiing.
