June 30th, 2009 - Mono Creek to Vermillion Valley Resort (VVR)

Since we pushed the miles the day before, we were camped just a couple of easy miles away from the ferry dock where we would catch the ferry to VVR. Tom woke up early and started another campfire. Nothing like waking up to a warm fire. We were able to enjoy the fire and take our time packing up since the ferry was not scheduled to arrive until 9:45am.

We arrived at the ferry dock about 8:45am - we wanted to make sure we didn't miss the boat. We were starving since we had been low on food for the last 10 days. I actually had trouble sleeping last night because I was so hungry. I just couldn't stop thinking about real food.

Met Rocket Man, Poppa Smurf and Bamboo Bob at the ferry dock. We had a good time chatting with our new friends. Just before the ferry pulled up Strider and V arrived.

The ferry finally arrived. It was a long 20 minute ride across Lake Edison to VVR. All we could think of was food!

As soon as we arrived at VVR, we all made a bee-line to the restaurant which just happened to be serving lunch. Mmmmmm... burgers, fries, more fries, apple pie, ice cream and beer. We stuffed our faces!

VVR is more remote than I had imagined. It is a very rustic resort, more like a camp, which caters to hikers and fishermen. It is either accessibly by ferry (from the trail) or a very long car ride on a narrow, windy gravel road that is rumored to have large boulders in the middle of the road.

We were directed to the hiker tents - basically large canvas tents on wooden platforms with bunk beds. Not the most fancy of accommodations but at least there were beds. Most importantly, we finally had full bellies. The rest of the day was spent taking showers, sitting around the 1 set of washing machine/dryer outside while each person did their laundry and just continuing to feed our faces.
