Beautiful sunrise from our campsite this morning. The eastern sky was a brilliant red and lasted for at least 30 minutes. What a great way to start off the day.
The trail was gentle and overally unremarkable. The exciting news for the day was that we hit the halfway mark. 1325 miles down, 1325 more miles to go. It's been a long haul thur far, hopefully the second half goes by more quickly.
Made it 22 miles to Hwy 36 about 4pm. We needed to hitch 7 miles to resupply at Chester, CA. As luck would have it, there was a car sitting at the turnout. The guy jumped out of the car and asked us if we were thru hikers. We of course said yes and he promplty opened up his trunk with a large cooler of cold drinks. Turns out he is Magic Man - the father of a current thru hiker (Boo-Boo) (Transcriber's note: BooBoo is a friend of mine! Magic Man dropped me a note on Face Book b/c he's been following T&T's journal entries as I mention them on my own blog/FB) Ironically he is from near seattle. Besides scoring a soda we also got a ride into town. What luck.
Had a great dinner at Kopper Kettle and then did a quick resupply at the grocery store. We are getting really good a speedy resupplies. Filled up our water and repackaged all our groceries and then set out to catch a ride back to the trail head. This ended up taking longer than we had thought. Finally after about 30 minutes a nice forest service firefighter picked us up. We were back to the trailhead about 7:15pm. Not too shabby! Walked a couple more miles to a camp near Stover Spring.
