We knew today was goign to be a good day. We were looking forward to stopping by Drakesbad Guest Ranch for lunch. The word on the trail was that Drakesbad has delicous food that is all-you-can-eat and heavily discounted for PCT hikers. And the Ranch is only 1/4 mile off trail. We couldn't pass it up.
Arrived at Drakesbad just in time for lunch. We were quickly greety by Ed & Billie - the hosts of the ranch. Ed gave me a big ol' hug like he had known me for years. I was really taken by surprise since I was dirty, sweaty and quite smelly. We instantly felt at home. Ed gave us each a laundry bag with a clean towel, soap and loaner clothes so we could take showers after lunch. And he even offered to wash our clothes.
After a delicous lunch we headed over to the pool where the showers were. It felt so go to scrub off all the dirt and grime we had accumulated over the pas 4 days. Since they had offered to do our laundry and even gave us loaner clothes to wear while our clotes were in the wash, we couldn't say no. Before we knew it, we were spending the day relaxing by the pool. This led to that and before we knew it we were meeting all the Ranch guests - getting free beer & wine and being invited to happy hour. So of course we had to stay for dinner. So much for the 30 mile day we had planned to do. Ended up just doign 15 miles for the day. We definitely enjoyed the afternoon/evening of R&R. Thanks to the fine hospitality of Drakesbad.
Now were are spending the night at a campcround just down the road.
